JSF BERLIN: From Seeing to Multisensory Experience. Theresa Baumgartner, Norbert Pape, Chaveli Sifre, and Simon Speiser in conversation with Lisa Long

Predominant systems of knowledge have elevated vision above hearing, smell, touch, and taste, despite how seeing is constituted from an amalgam of sensory feedback from the entire body. The exhibition “After Images” proposes a recalibration of our relationship to seeing and to contemporary image culture. Questioning the established hierarchy of sight over the other senses, it expands the visual realm to encompass the haptic and the multi-sensorial. What forms of agency, empathy, and respite lie in such an embrace of all senses—whether in the world or in the exhibition space?
Artistic Director Lisa Long will be joined by artists Theresa Baumgartner, Chaveli Sifre, Norbert Pape, and Simon Speiser for a conversation about their work featured in the exhibition. From olfactory notes, to point clouds, and light interventions, their different sensorial approaches point to alternative forms of representation and to an embodied experience where multidirectional sensualities meet.
Free admission. No reservation.
Exhibitions open from 6 to 10 p.m.
